Engineering Materials Laboratory
The Engineering Materials Laboratory aims to equip with updated and industry-relevant characterization and testing equipment to support our teaching needs as well as industry projects. The well-equipped laboratory is undergoing major revamp to upgrade
the equipment there, with a focus on thermal and mechanical properties of engineering materials used in the industry.
Charpy (ZwickRoell HIT450P)
The universal tester can perform impact bending test on metals, to established standards including various DIN and ISO 148-1. ASTM E23 and EN international standards can also be tested. It comprises electro-magnetic pendulum hammer release, automatic
pendulum lifting, and safety housing. Also consists of universal fixture for both Charpy and Izod tests. All doors are equipped with safety monitoring sensors. Modular design and accessories make it well suited to requirements of research
and Industry development.
- Nominal potential energy of up to 450 Joules
- testXpert III software and can operate with a PC
- Combination of digital (electronic) and analog dial displays
- Semi-automatic centering of specimen
- Specimen remains can be removed easily
- Hinged front safety door ideal for temperature-conditioned specimen
- Large windows allow for clear view of specimen
68TM (Instron 50 kN load cell)
The electromechanical UTM is used for tensile, compression, shear and other tests on materials and products according to ASTM, ISO, and other industry standards. The system is compatible with hundreds of grips and fixtures to perform tests specific
to biomedical, automotive, consumer electronics and raw materials industries. It has an ergonomic handset with customizable soft keys. The servo-controlled machine has stiff frames and uses brushless AC servomotors for cyclic tests.
It is powered by Bluehill Universal software and equipped with easy-to-understand icons and workflows. Collision Mitigation to protect damage to machine and specimens. QuickTest allows user to enter simple parameters and run test within seconds.
Includes library of pre-configured methods for commonly used ASTM and ISO standards. TestProfiler allows user to build simple cyclic tests that include ramps, holds, and triangle waves. Able to mimic real life scenarios within the tests.
- High performance Load cell with overload protection
- Built-in safety procedures protect operator from crush hazard
- Handset has thumbwheel with tactile feedback for crosshead positioning in 4 µm increments
- Include Digital Input/Output Channels
- Up to 5 kHz data acquisition and 0.5% accuracy down to 1/1000th of load cell capacity
- Also integrated with environmental chamber to perform tests at sub-ambient temperatures
Olympus BX53M Industrial Microscope
Designed for Industrial and materials science applications, the Olympus BX53M is integrated with OLYMPUS Stream software, providing seamless workflow for standard microscopy and digital imaging users from imaging to report creation.
Olympus BX41M Microscope system
>
Olympus BX41M Metallurgical Microscope system 8-position universal condenser for use in brightfield, darkfield, Phase Contrast, polarization, and DIC (Nomarski) allows continuous observation over the wide magnification range of 1.25x-100x without
condenser change.
INSTRON CEAST 9050 Impact Pendulum
The CEAST 9050 impact pendulum is designed for determining the resilience of thermoplastic materials to impact. Tests conform to internationally recognized standards belonging to Charpy, Izod, Pipe and Tensile Impact methods, ranging in energy
from 0.5 - 50J. Plastics, composites and metals can be tested using various configurations of the 9050 pendulum.
INSTRON 3367 Universal Testing System
The 3367 Dual Column Tabletop Testing Systems is ideal for tension and/or compression applications where tests are less than 50 kN (11,250 lbf).
NETZSCH DSC 214 Polyma Differential Scanning Calorimeter
The DSC 214 Polyma Differential Scanning Calorimeter (-170 °C to 600 °C) comes equipped with the Arena® furnace and Corona® sensor and delivers a powerful solution for the research, development, quality assurance and failure
analysis of polymer materials.
