22 Dec 2014

Futuregov.Asia, 18 Dec 2014 - SP’s Diploma in Information Technology and Diploma in Infocomm Security Management students have won a regional challenge by the Singapore Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) and Red Hat this week with a smart energy consumption application. The Red Hat Challenge@Labs encouraged students to create smart home solutions using open source technology to address real challenges faced by people. SP students created a system with sensors, a mobile app and web site to remotely control home appliances. Homeowners can use a dashboard on the web site and mobile app to monitor energy consumption of each appliance and switch them on or off at a specific time. SP students, Tan Zai Wei, Lindon Ng and Preshant Achuthan also walked away with a cash prize of US$10,000 and an internship opportunity with Red Hat’s Beijing office.
