This course covers the principles and practices of sustainable reporting, including stakeholder engagement and materiality assessment. It also introduces what are Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and gain awareness of the calculation methodologies on GHG emissions.

Course Objective

The course aims to provide an overview of corporate sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and explain the significance of sustainability in the various parts of the business value chain, including procurement, human resources and accounting. In addition, participants will be equipped with the automation and analytics skills that will provide them with opportunity to deliver higher value to the business.

Topics to be covered

Corporate Sustainability Reporting 

  • Introduction to Corporate Sustainability  
  • Introduction to key global movements including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 
  • Introduction to the importance of Sustainability Reporting and Climate issues   
  • Explain the components of a sustainability report, preparing a quality report and meaningful disclosures  
  • Introduction to the metrics and reporting standards used locally and internationally for sustainability reporting 
  • Develop a simple sustainability report through the undertaking of a project to review and analyse sustainability reports and assess what to look for to identify a good report 
 

Carbon Management 

  • Explain the basics of carbon accounting 
  • Importance and relevance of carbon accounting in the context of climate change 
  • Introduction to relevant legislation and regulation in Singapore  
  • Explain the carbon pricing mechanism in Singapore (carbon tax) 
  • Overview of carbon reporting frameworks and standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) – S1 and S2) 
  • Data Collection methods and tools for carbon accounting 
  • Different approaches to carbon accounting (e.g., operational control, financial control, product lifecycle) 
  • Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and their accounting methodologies 
  • How to calculate basic GHG emissions calculations (based on fuel usage and electricity bills) 
  • Considerations for carbon offsetting and reduction strategies 

Minimum Requirements

Recognised diploma from recognised IHL or at least 1 year of working experience, subject to interview and/or entrance test. SP reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Certification / Accreditation

• Certificate of Attendance (electronic Certificate will be issued)
A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who meet at least 75% attendance rate

• Certificate of Completion (electronic Certificate will be issued)
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who pass the assessment and meet at least 75% attendance rate
