Course Objective

The Diploma in Engineering (Power Engineering) aims to equip participants with skills to work competently in the areas of electrical installations, power transmission and distribution, as well as power system operation and protection. This course is suitable for participants who intentd to work in industries that include building electrical services, facility maintenance, transportation, port, manufacturing, energy and chemicals, marine and offshore.

MC 4 - Certificate in Power Distribution
Module 1 - Electrical Installation Design
Module 2 - Power Transmission and Distribution

Minimum Requirements

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply:

a) The following GCE 'O' Level grades and with at least 1 year of relevant working experience:
  • English Language Grade 1 – 7
  • Mathematics (Elementary or Additional) Grade 1 – 6
  • Science Grade 1 – 6

Science can be one of the following subjects:

b) Nitec in an engineering or information technology discipline with GPA >= 3.5

OR
c) Nitec in an engineering or information technology discipline with GPA >= 3.0 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
d) Nitec in Technology in an engineering or information technology discipline with GPA >= 3.5 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
e) Higher Nitec in an engineering or information technology discipline with GPA >=2.0

OR
f) Higher Nitec in an engineering or information technology discipline with GPA >=1.5 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
g) Higher Nitec in Technology in an engineering or information technology discipline with GPA >=2.0 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
h) Relevant WSQ Advanced Certificate (or higher) with at at least 1 year of relevant working experience and Level 6 for both WSQ Workplace Literacy SOA & Workplace Numeracy SOA

OR
i) Applicant with none of the qualifications listed above but at least 2 years of relevant working experience.

It should be noted that applicants, particularly those who wish to pursue a career in electrical power engineering or as a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW), with colour vision deficiency may encounter difficulties meeting the course requirements and expectations, as this condition is required by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore. Those with mild colour deficiency are required to undergo an in-house test. Interested applicants with this condition are highly encouraged to contact Singapore Polytechnic for more information.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Certification / Accreditation

Upon completion of modules in each Modular Certificate in each semester, the participant will be awarded the respective Modular Certificate.

Upon successfully acquiring MC1 to MC5 within a five-year validity period, the participant will be conferred a Diploma in Engineering (Power Engineering) qualification from Singapore Polytechnic

This course is suitable for engineering professionals aiming to advance their careers in power engineering fields to perform design and submission of plans, installation, operation & maintenance, repair, inspection and test of electrical installations. It provides the academic qualifications needed for Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW) certification, equipping participants with specialized skills and credentials essential for career progression in the power engineering sector.
