Diploma in Architecture
Class of 2022
As someone who had already developed an interest in Architecture back in secondary school, joining DARCH was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I have made. At DARCH, we were met with a diverse range of projects, which equipped us with the relevant
technical and critical-thinking skills necessary for success in the industry.
Despite the challenges and rigours of the course, I enjoyed learning about the various aspects of architecture and especially the social impacts of architecture, specifically the way designs of structures or spaces can improve social conditions
or impact communities. Looking back, there are many moments that I wish I could relive with my friends - working in the studio while watching the sun set, bringing our ‘emotional support’ plushies to school, and experiencing the thrill
and excitement of learning the fundamentals.
My year 2 internship experience was particularly life changing. Before embarking on it, I was curious about the practices in the architectural industry, and what it would be like to work in a multi-disciplinary firm that did more than
just Architecture. This influenced my decision to join WY-TO, a multi-disciplinary firm that does works in exhibition, interior design and architecture, where I got to witness how the different disciplines came together and informed design decisions.
Despite only spending three short months with them, I gained valuable insights on topics that were not discussed in school. I even had the opportunity to work on projects such as the design development of an installation for the Seoul Biennale of
Architecture and Urbanism 2021, a project that impressed me greatly.
My time in SP has felt like a journey of self-discovery. It was through the DARCH programme that I have gradually come to understand myself better and gain insights that
will continue to shape and guide me through my future endeavours.
