I enrolled into DARCH in 2014. I was a latecomer as I spent a year in Junior College before opting for the Polytechnic route. Having experienced the academic setting and culture, as well as the learning journeys of both educational routes, I would conclude that the shift to SP was undoubtedly the best decision I had ever made at that time.
As a science student in Junior College, pursuing architectural studies proved to be an extremely unfamiliar territory. After all, one who thinks that he loves drawing or looking at nice buildings will very soon realise that that alone is insufficient to prepare for the rigour of education in architecture. Unlike science, the open-ended nature of architecture presents challenges that are both new and rewarding.
Under the tutorship of caring and able lecturers, I have come to realise that saying “I don’t know” could be the wisest thing that one can do for himself. Through them, I developed a deep curiosity for things around me, which slowly proved beneficial when I had to think both creatively and critically about architectural related design matters and issues.
The Diploma in Architecture is not only all-rounded in terms of training students to be creative and critical thinkers and doers, but it also touches on the aspects of technical know-how and proficiency. The support and rapport formed with our lecturers and peers undoubtedly makes the journey a very worthwhile indeed. I thank all the lecturers, staff, technical support officers and friends who had made my SP journey an endearing and enriching one.
