Having a Father as a project manager, I was inspired and determined to become a civil engineer since my secondary school days. I even proudly shared once during a presentation then of how I was going to be a civil engineer to my English teacher and peers. With that goal in mind, I put SP’s Civil Engineering with Business as my first choice during the Joint Admission Exercise.

Looking back at my three-year journey in SP, I realised that it has allowed me to widen my knowledge and perspective on all aspects of the built environment. The modules taught in the course are highly diversified, and were relevant to the current industry trends which allows us to transit seamlessly to the working world.

Additionally, the biggest takeaway was my own personal growth from a timid and shy individual to someone who is more confident and can share his thoughts and ideas clearly. With my newfound confidence, I volunteered as a motivator and could face an audience of hundreds at the 2019 National Day Parade. I would never have been that brave without the support of my peers and lecturers who saw the potential in me.

2019 to 2021 has been a trying period for everyone with the COVID-19 pandemic. To minimise the disruption, ABE ensured all students had a conducive and safe study environment for all. Lecturers continued to engage us via online platforms and ensured that we continued to have internship opportunities. I am grateful to them for allowing all of us to continue to have memorable student experiences and allowing us to complete our SP journey with no regrets.
