Since my first job as a retail assistant, I have developed a keen interest in the service industry. I often feel delighted when I am able to improve the experience of my guest through my service. Since the hospitality industry is well known for its extensive demand for service, I decided to set my career path in the hospitality sector and enrolled myself into the Diploma in Hotel and Leisure Facilities Management course at the Singapore Polytechnic.
The Diploma in Hotel and Leisure Facilities Management (DHLFM) not only imparts me with the knowledge of the hotel operations, it also allows me to practice what I have learnt in lectures through real-life simulation and projects. During the three years of my education at Singapore Polytechnic, I managed to gain a better understanding of the industry and this makes me more confident and knowledgeable about what I am going to do in my career. In the past, I used to be soft spoken but through the trainings provided, I realised that I could initiate conversations more easily than before.
My three years in Singapore Polytechnic (SP) is definitely something I enjoyed the most. From the cosy library to the delicious food choices in the food court, everything is just superb! One of the most memorable experiences in SP was the leadership camp (LEAP foundation) at Kota Tinggi Rainforest Resort. Through the camp, I managed to make new friends and understand the basics of the Seven Habits in Effective Teens which has allowed me to do well in the tasks given. Even though the camp was just a four days programme, I thoroughly enjoyed the activities planned and felt that it was really useful.
During my time in SP, I was also selected to be an ambassador for the School of the Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE) where I was given opportunities to attend leadership training programmes and public speaking workshops. As an ABE ambassador, I assist the school in promoting the course of study to secondary school students. One of the main events is the Hotel and Events Challenge where ambassadors help to explain and promote the course to a group of secondary 3 students visiting the event. In addition, I also represented ABE in community involvement programmes such as visiting the elderly in a day care center.
All in all, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the management team and lecturers of DHLFM. They have made the course interesting and engaging over the past years and this has allowed us to create meaningful memories.
With SP, it is just so possibly great!
