EEE team won Prestigious Lee Hsien Loong Smart Nation Award, May 2019
A project entitled, “Smart Volatile Organic Compound Gas Monitoring System with IoT Solution,” submitted by an EEE team, won the Lee Hsien Loong Smart Nation Award 2019 in May 2019. The team, comprising 4 EEE students, namely, Mervin Tan Zhi Yong (DCPE), Goh Chee Kiat (DCPE), See Kailin Elyn (DEB) and Nadhirah Insyirah Bte Abu Bakar (DEEE), developed and commercialised the project, with supervision from W2 Industrial Services Hub where Mervin did his 22-week. The award was presented by Second Minister for Education, Ms Indranee Rajah, during the Special Awards Ceremony 2019 on the 27 August 2019.
The project was a real time monitoring system to actively detect illegal discharge of hazardous VOC gases into the used-water networks. The system also empowers industries to prevent such incidents. With successful deployment of the system at critical locations, our used water networks are protected and this ensures the success of the treatment processes of reclaimed water. This was a tri-partite collaboration with W2 Industrial Hub and Public Utilities Board (PUB). Phyoe Kyaw Kyaw, Lee Mei Lai and Fauziah Othman coached the winning team.
