Built Environment XPO (BEX) ASIA 2023
September 09, 2023
It was an eventful three days at BEX Asia 2023! The event, which took place from 6 – 8 September at Sands Expo & Convention Centre, saw the launch of the SP-KPMG Decarbonisation Playbook for IHLs. Campuses wanting to move towards zero carbon emission can now refer to the playbook SP jointly developed with its consultant and partner for its net zero transformation journey, KPMG in Singapore. This playbook provides practical guidance for IHLs in their decarbonisation journey and solutions to the challenges.
The Guest-of-Honour at BEX Asia 2023 was Minister for National Development & Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, Mr Desmond Lee. He was updated on the progress of the Singapore Polytechnic – ProjectZero A/S Sonderberg collaboration on a tour of its ProjectZero and the polytechnic's green solutions, which were developed with its industry partners to improve the sustainability of commercial operations.
ProjectZero Network
SP, the first partner of ProjectZero A/Z Sonderborg outside Sonderborg, aims to grow an international network of partners in co-driving net zero initiatives and to share best practices, knowledge, and technologies, including those implemented by Project Zero A/Z Sonderborg, to advance sustainability, decarbonisation, and net-zero emissions agenda.
Mr Brian Seeberg, CEO of ProjectZero, presented the LESS carbon brick to PCEO to signify the partnership between SP and Project Zero A/Z Sonderborg to develop an international network of partners in co-driving net zero initiatives.
During his keynote speech in the afternoon, Mr Brian Seeberg shared how the partnership between SP and ProjectZero can help accelerate decarbonisation in Singapore.
The ProjectZero Network seeks:
- To share best concepts, practices, knowledge, and technologies, including those implemented by ProjectZero A/Z Sonderborg, to advance sustainability, decarbonisation and net-zero emissions agenda; and
- To grow an international network of partners for collaboration towards the agenda
MoUs with Industry Partners
SP also took further strides towards sustainability solutioning, inking memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with industry leaders like KPMG in Singapore, AkzoNobel and Envision Digital for a series of transformative initiatives that align with global sustainable development goals, and would redefine the higher education landscape.
The MoUs were witnessed by Minister Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development, Her Excellency Sandra Jensen Landi, the Ambassador of Denmark, and Her Excellency Ms Tan Poh Hong, Non-Resident Ambassador to Denmark.
Launch of Carbon Offset Dashboard
SP also launched a Carbon Offset dashboard at BEXAsia 2023 developed by the Data Science and Analytics Centre (DSAC), which calculates real-time carbon emissions from event participants' commutes to the venue. Attendees were able to understand the environmental impact of their transportation choices and make more informed travel decisions that reduce their carbon footprint in the future.
Mr Soh Wai Wah, Principal and CEO of Singapore Polytechnic, said, "As the first IHL to undertake a net zero carbon emissions exercise, SP is at the forefront in understanding the constraints faced by ESG experts and identifying real issues faced in the decarbonisation journey. Through our strategic partnerships with Project Zero Sonderberg, Danfoss, KPMG Singapore, AkzoNobel, and Envision Digital, we hope to nurture the next generation of sustainability leaders while enabling organisations to have access to best practices - across organisations, sectors, and borders. We also aim to help small and medium enterprises achieve the transformative change needed to propel them further in their Net Zero journey and accelerate the national decarbonisation agenda, paving the way for Singapore to be the model sustainability city for Asia."
