SP Brings Design Thinking Expertise to the Philippines with DT|UX Summit 2024

August 30, 2024

Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Singapore Polytechnic International (SPI) have taken a significant step in bringing design thinking and innovation to the region with the inaugural overseas edition of SP’s Design Thinking | User Experience (DT|UX) Regional Summit, hosted by Ateneo de Manila University. Themed “Sustainable Futures: Designing for Tomorrow Through Humanity-Centred Innovation,” the event emphasised SP’s commitment to advancing sustainable and innovative solutions through design thinking on a global scale.

The event marked the first time the DT|UX Summit was held outside of Singapore, showcasing SP’s leadership in promoting humanity-centred innovation. A key segment of the summit was the introduction of SP’s Humanity-Centred Design+ (HCD+) Playbook, which provides a strategic framework for organisations looking to thrive in today’s “Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous” (VUCA) world.

The playbook offers practical and actionable solutions for businesses to navigate complex challenges and drive innovation that is sustainable and humanity-centric.

This summit was also the first visit to the Philippines for Don Norman, who is widely regarded as the “Father of User Experience”. His presence at the event as the Guest-of-Honour further cemented the event’s significance in the design and innovation community.

Furthermore, the event brought together thought leaders and industry experts who discussed the growing importance of design thinking in addressing complex societal challenges. The summit’s interactive workshops and presentations provided participants with opportunities to explore practical applications of design thinking in sustainability, digitalisation, and business innovation.

“The partnership between Singapore Polytechnic and Ateneo de Manila University at the DT|UX Summit underscores our shared vision of using design as a powerful tool for regional transformation. By bringing the summit to the Philippines, we are not only promoting innovation but also fostering a community dedicated to creating sustainable, humanity-centred solutions for the future,” said Ms Georgina Phua, SP’s Deputy Principal (Development).

Through the DT|UX Summit, SP reinforced its commitment to advancing design thinking across ASEAN, fostering cross-border collaborations, and leading the charge in sustainable, human-centric innovation. This initiative continues to position SP as a key player in promoting design thinking as a catalyst for regional transformation and sustainable development.
