New Sustainability Learning Journey Launched
October 18, 2024
At the Regional Industry Networking Conference 2024 & Automation SolutionGO! event, an inaugural blended conference jointly co-organised with AutomationSG, SP unveiled its Sustainability Learning Journey (Sus LJ), a pioneering initiative designed to help businesses implement sustainable practices and reduce their environmental impact. Built around three zones—Awareness, Baseline, and Commitment—the Sus LJ provides companies with a hands-on, exhibition-style experience that guides them through essential steps in their sustainability transformation.
The Sus LJ includes face-to-face walkthroughs, presentations, and interactive activities, as well as opportunities for industry networking, making it a practical resource for organisations aiming to adopt sustainable operations. SP has partnered with leading organisations such as A*STAR SIMTECH, Grundfos, Danfoss, Paia from CBRE, the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), and the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) to deliver this comprehensive programme. Together, they provide participants with insights and tools to tackle real-world sustainability challenges, from energy efficiency to carbon management and resource optimisation.
Reflecting on SP’s commitment to sustainability, Mr Soh Wai Wah, Principal and CEO of Singapore Polytechnic, said, “As sustainability becomes more crucial, our Sustainability Learning Journey is perfectly timed. Together, we are driving innovation and helping local businesses thrive sustainably.”
The event also saw SP signing a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with 17 Indonesian Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs). This partnership aims to enhance knowledge and skills exchange between Singapore and Indonesia, offering overseas internships, industry visits, and other experiential learning opportunities for students. This initiative supports Singapore’s Ministry of Education’s “70-70” strategy, aiming to provide 70% of local students with overseas exposure, with a focus on ASEAN countries, China, and India. Over the next three years, approximately 200 SP students in pre-employment training (PET) programmes will benefit from these opportunities, expanding their technical competencies and global perspectives.
Through this collaborative event with AutomationSG, SP is strengthening its support of advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Alongside partners such as the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), SP is working to ensure that Singapore’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remain competitive in a global market.
