October 16, 2024
SP reinforced its position as a leader in Industry 4.0 by signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) during the ITAP 2024 event. This is FMM’s first-ever collaboration with an educational institution in Singapore, marking a significant step towards cross-border industry collaboration between Singapore and Malaysia. Deputy Prime Minister Mr Heng Swee Keat, the Guest-of-Honour at ITAP 2024, witnessed the momentous signing.
The partnership aims to enhance skills in automation, data analytics, and smart manufacturing, aligning with the evolving demands of Industry 4.0. The collaboration will focus on fostering industry-academia collaboration, driving joint research and development projects, and equipping graduates with the skills necessary to thrive in the modern manufacturing landscape. The initiative also supports the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), further boosting regional business ecosystems and cross-border trade.
“This collaboration is a major step forward in our journey toward Industry 4.0. By strengthening ties between industry and academia, we provide our graduates with cutting-edge skills to thrive in the ever-changing manufacturing landscape, while supporting regional economic growth through cross-border trade,” said Ms Georgina Phua, SP’s Deputy Principal (Development).
Additionally, SP signed five other agreements at ITAP 2024 with key partners, including Singtel, Advanced Manufacturing Training Academy (AMTA), Cragar Industries, International Centre for Industrial Transformation (INCIT), and Monitor ERP. These collaborations aim to drive workforce transformation, accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies, and enhance talent development in the manufacturing and engineering sectors.
At the event’s Industrial Transformation Experience Zone, SP unveiled a diverse range of cutting-edge technologies in three thematic zones: Sustainability, Innovation, and Digitalisation. The Sustainability Zone featured solutions such as energy efficiency audits, carbon accounting, and additive manufacturing aimed at reducing environmental impact. In the Innovation Zone, SP showcased AI-driven automation, 5G-enhanced industrial training, and customisable production lines designed to enhance operational efficiency. The Digitalisation Zone presented technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), AI-powered data analytics, and IoT sensors for predictive maintenance, enabling businesses to streamline operations and drive transformation.
Through its strategic partnerships and cutting-edge innovations, SP continues to play a critical role in shaping the future of Industry 4.0 and supporting the transformation of the manufacturing ecosystem across Singapore and the region.
