Collegial Artificial Intelligence Innovation Competition, Oct 2020
October 26, 2020
DSAC and Transwarp Technology, a leading big data and AI company from China, co-organized SP’s first AI competition – Collegial AI Innovation Competition 2020 (CAIIC 2020), supported by partners AI Singapore, National Supercomputing Centre and Ministry of Education. The Competition was launched at an opening ceremony on 7 Oct 2020 which also featured the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between SP and National Supercomputing Centre.
This competition was a first-of-its-kind online AI competition as it supported AI enthusiasts to compete not just nationally but also internationally. Participants were provided with free training on an enterprise AI platform with a drag-and-drop interface and access to server compute over two Saturdays before participants embarked on the competition proper. Under the competition theme “Power”, participating groups developed AI models to predict whether distribution transformers would overload over a period of time in the future based on past data. The prizes for the Singapore edition of the competition of $3k, $2k and $1k for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively were fully sponsored by DSAC.
In total, 53 teams with 215 participants from Institutes of Technical Education (ITEs), and the different polytechnics registered. Four teams from MS led by Mr Yanto Jakop, Mr Lim Suang and Dr Zhang XM participated in the competition. Out of 53 teams, 29 teams successfully submitted their solutions though only 18 made full submissions. The top 3 winning teams for the Singapore edition of the competition in order of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places were Team Techjunkies from Singapore Polytechnic (See Picture below), and Teams Reecloud and NvrOverFit from Nanyang Polytechnic respectively. The three teams moved on to participate in the China Final on 27 Nov 2020 and shared, in addition to their solutions, how their proposed AI solution could improve production and operation efficiency of enterprises. They did well and have done us proud, ranking 3rd (NvrOverFit), 9th (Reecloud) and 11th (Techjunkies) in the China Final.
