FIRC @ TechInnovation 2024 Highlights: The Future of the Food Industry
November 01, 2024
Food Innovation & Resource Centre (FIRC) thrilled to participate in TechInnovation 2024 alongside SP’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centre (AMTC), showcasing our latest tech innovations! Carolyn Stephen, our lead nutritionist at FIRC, presented an insightful crowdpitching on harnessing the potential of Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG).
Typically, only 20% of coffee beans are consumed, while the remaining 80%—about six million tons—often ends up in landfills or as low-value fertilizer. Carolyn introduced a simple, reproducible non-chemical process that transforms SCG into valuable oil- and water-based pastes suitable for diverse food applications.
This scalable solution empowers companies to boost their sustainability initiatives while expanding their product offerings. For companies eager to explore this sustainable solution of transforming SCG into value-added products, please reach out to FIRC at 6879 0634 or email us at firc@sp.edu.sg
