Gen Z's frequent fliers
10 Dec 2024
Gen Z travellers are pursuing their wanderlust despite the challenges of school or full-time jobs, finding creative ways to fund their adventures through side hustles, budgeting, and resourcefulness. Whether exploring new cultures, tasting diverse cuisines, or catching live performances, these young individuals craft memorable travel experiences and share them on social media. One example is Jaedyn Choo, a third-year student at SP’s Media, Arts & Design School. At just 19, she embarked on her first solo trip — a two-week backpacking adventure in Thailand in 2023, which cost her $800, including visits to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and the Pai River. Since then, she has travelled to three more countries, funding her trips by working part-time jobs, such as being a banquet server. To save costs, she hunts for affordable flights, like a $30 ticket from Langkawi to Singapore, and stays in hostels. Her story reflects the determination and ingenuity of Gen Z travellers who turn their dreams into reality.
