A*STAR launches EV battery testing and disassembly lline

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) has launched an electric vehicle battery testing and disassembly production line, and is working with partners to build a circular economy for electric vehicle batteries. The new production line uses Industry 4.0 technologies such as automation and diagnostics to improve the current practice of dismantling electric vehicle batteries and will also be used to evaluate battery performance. SP will also work with other industry partners such as the Singapore Manufacturers Federation and international certification body TÜV SÜD to help companies achieve sustainable growth. DPM Heng also noted that in 2023, about 900 engineering internships have been secured under Enterprise Singapore’s Global Ready Talent Programme, which supports companies to hire and train ITE, polytechnic and university graduates for various roles. SP’s Deputy Principal (Development) Georgina Phua and Senior Lecturer Ilyas also spoke about the benefit of the partnership such as students from both countries working together on collaborative projects.
