Asia Pacific's first methanol safe handling course has trained over 200 maritime personnel since March

12 Aug 2024

The SMA is piloting the use of virtual reality in a training programme that teaches participants how to safely handle methanol, as the industry changes ships to greener ones by 2050. Such safety courses for new fuels will also soon be included in certification programmes for ship officers and engineers. Capt Chatur Wahyu, director of SP’s SMA, shared that the Academy will be closely working with MPA to design and develop this course, citing it as their contribution to the industry to train seafarers and maritime personnel to handle the new fuel safely and effectively.
