India’s HCLTech to open AI lab in Singapore; signs pacts to train, hire poly students

05 Nov 2024

HCL Technologies (HCLTech) announced the establishment of an artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory in Singapore by 2025, aimed at advancing AI initiatives across Southeast Asia. As part of this plan, HCLTech signed MOUs with SP and NYP to equip both young talent and mid-career professionals with AI skills. This partnership will support HCLTech’s future hiring needs, initially expecting 20 to 25 engineers and technicians, with plans for future expansion. The lab, HCLTech’s fifth globally, is supported by Singapore’s Economic Development Board and will showcase the company’s generative AI products. HCLTech Chairwoman Ms Roshni Nadar Malhotra emphasised the demand for tech talent, noting the company’s shift toward hiring more diploma holders, including graduates from polytechnics, to fill skill gaps. At the event, Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Mr Tan Kiat How highlighted Singapore’s focus on building a tech ecosystem that supports both early-career and mid-career talent. He expressed optimism that HCLTech’s commitment to training and hiring 50 polytechnic students and mid-career individuals will inspire more multinational corporations to consider polytechnic graduates, whom he praised for their technical abilities and problem-solving skills.
