Singapore Polytechnic and Singapore National Employers Federation launch new centre to help students find employment opportunities

31 Oct 2023

SP and the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) will be setting up a new centre next year to help students from the polytechnics and ITEs find employment opportunities. The centre will be ready by May 2024 and will allow students to gain exposure in 16 sectors such as manufacturing, precision engineering and maritime. Minister of Education Chan Chun Sing witnessed the memorandum of understanding signing between both parties, and also launched SP's commemorative book for its 70th anniversary. He expressed his wish for more trade associations and chambers to set up their offices in the polytechnics and ITEs to promote deeper collaboration between the industry and academia. SP's Assistant Director for Industry & Partnerships Fann Zhi Jie is also a lecturer for the Diploma in Interior Design and mentioned that his team came up with a system to get students to audit their work and seek help from the lecturers or their fellow peers. The purpose is to help the students develop their sense of judgement as interior design is a topic where there are no right or wrong answers. SP alumnus from the Diploma in n Infocomm Security Management Lee Yi Terng added that SP's flipped learning model provides more flexibility for him as he does not like to learn by purely looking at slides. This method allows him to review lecture materials at his own pace to maximise the effectiveness.
