17 Jul 2024

New Work-Study Programmes (WSP) run by different local polytechnics were launched as part of the annual SkillsFuture Work-Study Exhibition on 17 July.  All five polytechnics are rolling out 10 new work-study programmes this year in digital, green, and care economy sectors to nurture more talent. The 10 work-study programmes offered by the polytechnics will mostly start in October this year. They include various diplomas in Applied Generative Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Environmental Technology and Energy Sustainability, and Gerontology (Community Health and Social Care). Each polytechnic is offering one to three programmes. Second Minister for Education, Dr Maliki Osman, highlighted that work-study graduates have good employment outcomes, with many securing jobs within six months and earning 33% more than before. Polytechnics will play a key role in these new offerings, reflecting the market's recognition of work-study programmes' value. Speaking at the annual SkillsFuture Work-Study Fair held at RP, Dr Maliki said that work-study graduates have enjoyed good employment outcomes, with more than nine in 10 securing jobs within six months after completing the programmes.
