Two 17-year-old polytechnic students open café in Sultan Gate

10 Nov 2023

Siësta is one of the many new cafes at Sultan Gate. The Muslim-owned café opened on 20 September, and sells typical café fare like toasties, loaded fries, desserts and drinks. It’s run by two 17-year-old polytechnic students, Qays Zara and Aesha Patel. The duo have been besties since secondary school. Qays is currently studying for a Diploma in Events Management at RP, while Aesha is in the Digital Media & Communications course at SP. They admit that “it’s definitely tricky to be juggling schooling and running a business”, but consider Siësta a passion project and devote their after-school hours and weekends to manning the cafe.
