HL Sunway Prefab Hub

On February 29, 2024, a group of 17 staff members and students studying Diploma in Civil Engineering visited the largest integrated construction and prefabrication hub ("ICPH") in Singapore, the Hong Leong - Sunway Prefab Hub, The purposes of the visit were:

1. Firstly, to provide participants with an opportunity to learn about the latest precast technologies and innovations.

2. Secondly, to familiarize them with the high degree of mechanization and automation involved in producing a wide range of building components. These components include Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) components, Precast bathroom units, Precast household shelters, and Large panel slabs, all under one roof. The management staff from the prefab hub shared with us what prefabrication is and how the hub uses technology to automate the production of precast components. The staff and students went on a guided tour of the precast plant at level 1. They were able to see and learn about the Automated Storage and Retrieval System, a robotic warehousing system where precast components are systematically stored in drawer units, located, and retrieved. In addition, they were shown the key green features at the HL-Sunway Prefab Hub.
