OVERVIEW

Final Year Project module requires each student to work in a team of 2 to 3 to conceptualise, design, develop and implement a project in one of the key technology areas over 2 semesters in their 3rd year.

Through this module, students experience the stages of Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate that typify the engineering process, product or system, from development to realisation. In the Conceive and Design stages, students also get to adopt the Design Thinking approach.

Conceive-Design and Design Thinking approaches will figure more prominently during the preliminary idealisation and research phase of the project and students are expected to demonstrate competency in either methodology depending on the nature of the project. During the Implement and Operate phases which follow, students are expected to develop the software and/or hardware, and its integration (where applicable) for the project, through diversified analytical and problem solving skills. Building team work spirit and project documentation are also being emphasized in this module.

Outstanding projects will be showcased in the annual SP Engineering Show, an exhibition which is open to the public and schools and fosters stronger links with industry partners.

Key technology areas in Final Year Project are:

  • AEROSPACE
  • EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
  • IC DESIGN & NANOFABRICATION
  • INDUSTRY AUTOMATION
  • MOBILE WIRELESS & WEB
  • NETWORKS CLOUD & ANALYTICS
  • ROBOTICS
  • SMART HEALTHCARE
  • SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
