Perfumery & Cosmetic Science students take on work-based training as part of curriculum

Channel NewsAsia, 29 Dec 2020 - News clip featured SP’s new Industry Now Curriculum (INC) pathway, as the pioneering curriculum structure that allows polytechnic students to spend have of their time away from the classroom to undergo work-based training. INC has been piloted to 23 second year students from the Diploma in Perfumery & Cosmetic Science (DPCS) in October, who are currently working on six real-world projects with industry partners. DPCS student, Goh Jun Yi shared that INC has minimal guidance from the lecturers as students are encouraged to be self-directed learners. Students on INC will have to take ownership and manage of their own projects. These projects will fulfil the requirements of three modules, which students would otherwise have to fulfil through classroom lectures and tutorials. Vice President of R&D, Asia-Pacific at Johnson & Johnson, Adam Ricciardone, opined that students who wish to join the industry after graduation will be more aware of the real workplace environment and demands. The INC pathway was also rolled out 20 Diploma in Information Technology students.
