PSC Scholar
Kang Boon Kiat Julian
Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Class 2019
Unlike many of his peers who did well in their GCE “O” levels and chose the JC route, Julian opted for a polytechnic education as it gave him opportunities to explore interests in engineering and a hands-on learning experience. Julian
chose SP because of its state of the art facilities, the pedagogical advances it has made in the teaching of engineering and a CDIO based engineering curriculum that is built on more than 60 years’ history and experience.
DEEE
with its flexible options offered him a path where he not only could undergo a practical education and interesting curriculum, but also opportunities to embrace a variety of co-curricular activities and interest areas. His achievement highlights
included winning first prize in AWS Hackday 2017, Most Innovative Prize in ISEC 2017, and the Airbus-SSTA HADR Challenge 2018. He was the recipient of several scholarships – Public Service Commission Scholarship, DSO Diploma Scholarship,
SP Engineering Scholarship, A*STAR Science Award, DSTA Scholarship, IMDA iPREP Award and YSEALI Academic award. Showing the beginnings of an entrepreneur, he co-founded the MakerFoundry LLP to develop and sell SPEEEduino, an IoT microcontroller
development board, for use in classes, workshops and competitions.
