After graduating from secondary school with a decent “O” level result, I decided to enroll myself into a local Junior College (JC) after receiving encouragement from my teachers and parents. JC is seen by most as the direct path to higher education at university level and appears to be the correct choice to make. However, due to the lack of interest in the scope of studies offered in JC, I did not perform well. Eventually, I made the decision to leave school due to the immerse stress from my studies.

I was introduced to the Diploma in Integrated Events & Project Management (DEPM) when I attended SP Open House in 2013. Not being one who would like to be desk-bounded, I took interest in the course immediately as the lecturer explains to me about the course that I will be studying for the next 3 years.

DEPM has taught me how to manage my time well through first-hand experience such as organising the DEPM Bonding Day in 2014. I was given many opportunities such as participating in the Diary Farm Family Day 2013 and organising of the National Library Board’s Halloween Programme – Dark Tales 3. By taking part in the planning and execution of events, I gained significant insights of the industry such as the importance of maintaining good relation with suppliers. This was an experience that I never had during my JC education.

In addition, DEPM also provided me with the necessary skills such as Photoshop and the various Microsoft softwares which helped me immensely during my internship. It reaffirms that choosing DEPM was the right decision as it helped me to be work ready and life ready in addition to the skills that I have acquired.

During my 22-weeks internship at a local event company, I had the opportunity to take part in significant events such as the Early Childhood Development Agency’s Early Childhood Conference & Convention 2015 and the NTU and NUS Career Fair. Even though the working hours were often long and irregular, I had a very interesting experience and have also learned a lot about the industry.

I would like to thank all my lecturers, classmates and friends in SP for the memorable and exciting journey. My achievements are a result of their continuous support and guidance. Thank you for making the 3 years so enjoyable!
