Events are so dynamic in nature, each having its own unique qualities that set them apart from the next. My passion of events was nurtured when I was a Project Manager for a YOG-related CCA during my Junior College days. The success of these events made the entire event journey extremely rewarding. It was then that I decided to pursue the DEPM course in Singapore Polytechnic, as I believed that it would provide me with the avenue to develop and equip myself with the technical knowledge and skills required in the working world. Many may perceive polytechnic as a step back in my academic pursuits, but to me it is clearly the opposite.

Throughout my time in SP, I was taught numerous modules that allowed me to view events in a whole new perspective, giving me the chance to conduct my own site visits for projects and act as an event manager. I have had opportunities to work in events such as Singapore International Water Week, Far East Organisation’s Walk for a Cause, and also the Sigur Ros Concert, which gave me eye-opening experiences on what goes on behind the scenes to make these events successful.

I cannot deny that the course is exhausting; with countless sleepless nights scrambling to complete proposals and presentations on time. But at the end of the day, the results are always truly rewarding. The DEPM course gave me the invaluable opportunity to conceptualise and execute my own projects for clients, such as the DEPM Bonding Day, my Integrated Project - DEPM Industry Networking Night, as well as having a taste of being an exhibitor in the DEPM Integrated Project Exhibition. I have also had the honour of being the Events Organising Committee for the annual Youth Model ASEAN Conference under the SPOT Programme.

DEPM also gave me the opportunity to be attached to an event management company for 22 weeks, where I was able to further hone my skills and put my knowledge into practice as an events coordinator.

Indeed, my 3 years in DEPM was a truly enriching and gratifying experience, where I was able to challenge myself to strive for greater heights. So, thank you SP!
