Flying high at the Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition

12 engineering students from DASE, DME and DMRO took part in the Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition (SAFMC) 2019 across various categories in C2 (FPV flight - Tiny Whoop Race), C3 (FPV flight - Micro), D1 (semi-autonomous), D2 (fully-autonomous) and E (unconventional). Team SP_AERO_YMPA won the 1st Place Championship Award in D1 while Teams SP_AERO_Aerobot and SP_AERO_LHP clinched the 2nd Place Championship Award for D2 and C3 respectively.

In C2 and C3, teams built their drones of different specifications to race in a circuit with obstacles. Teams in D1 designed and built their semi-autonomous drone to play a tit-tac-toe game by picking up and dropping payloads as quickly as possible to win the game. For D2, teams built and programmed their drone to navigate through a circular window and a narrow corridor before dropping payloads at the designated spots in a fully autonomous mode (i.e. without human input).
