SUTD Movie Hackathon First Price

DCPE 3FT student Ryan Ong has participated in the inaugural SUTD movie Hackathon, and won 1st prize on 27 nov18.

At the SUTD Movie Hackathon, the participants get to watch Disney’s Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, and be guided through the design thinking and creative problem solving process in teams to design solutions for real world problems (based on the movie).

The team was randomly formed by the organizer during the hackathon, and Ryan’s team consist of 6 students from JC and NSF and their prototype is called “Trashure Chest” that gamify the recycling of trash. It is a pseudo slot-machine that brings fun into recycling and reducing waste for the general public who wants to play their part in conserving the environment. It ingests unwanted (recyclable) waste such as plastic bottles and, depending on the user’s luck of draw, dispenses prizes such as discount coupons should you hit the jackpot. Each of the team member walk away with a Nintendo DS Switch (a video game console).
