DEB year one student, Chong Ing Kai, who enrolled in the EEE Technopreneurship Mentoring Program, and his team members from the School of Computing, School of Design and Eunoia Junior College, won the River Hongbao Hackathon Entrepreneurship Competition held on 7 Jan 2021. His team was amongst the three who won $2,000 in prize money and $5,000 in seed money to develop and sell their product or service. Ing Kai’s team also won $500 for the most innovative award.

His team developed “Stick ‘Em,” an affordable STEM building kit for children of all ages to develop their creativity by connecting the wooden chopsticks as their design blocks. Stick ‘Em consists of 2 kits: connector kit which consists of chopstick connectors, and an electronics kit which consists of 4 motors and an electronics box with a Bluetooth app.

As part of winning the entrepreneurship competition, the team used the seed fund to manufacture and sell their products at the River Hongbao 2021 event at Gardens by the Bay from 10 Feb to 20 Feb. 70% of their sale proceeds, amounting to $3340, were donated to the charitable organisation, AWWA, a social service agency serving persons of different demographics across life-stages yearly. PM Lee and several ministers visited their stall at the River Hongbao event at Gardens by the Bay.
