14 Aug 2024

EEE teams clinched the Platinum Prize and Gold Prize at the 19th International Standards Olympiad held from 12 to 14 Aug 2024, beating teams from countries such as China, Japan and Korea. The Platinum Prize, awarded by the Prime Minister of Korea, honoured the top team from either the Middle School or High School category.

Jointly organised by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) and the Korean Standards Association (KSA), the competition aimed to raise awareness about the importance of standardisation for convenience and safety.  It also provided a platform for students to delve into standardisation and explore new methods by going beyond theory to incorporate technology and creativity, enhancing students’ scientific creativity in the process.

Enterprise Singapore endorsed two SP EEE teams to represent Singapore in the High School category. This year, the challenge was to develop standards related to “Artificial Intelligence – Guidance on the Ethical Practices for AI Technology”. The High School category featured 20 teams from 10 countries, including Korea, China, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Uzbekistan. Since 2017, Singapore Polytechnic EEE teams have consistently excelled at the annual International Standards Olympiad, securing prestigious awards including the Grand Prix Prize, Silver Prize, Gold+Silver, Silver+Bronze, Silver+Bronze, and Silver+Silver from 2018 to 2023.
