Centred on the theme, “IoT Cloud & Analytics,” the 2nd Tech & Industry forum was held on 9 March 2017 and attended by about 100 participants. The Forum serves as a platform to update staff on industry trends, to share
technology development work by staff and final year projects by students. It also aims to encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas for projects.
Giants of cloud computing, namely, Google, Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, lent industry perspectives to the theme with the following presentations:
- “An API-first approach to IoT” by Mr Law Chee Keong, Partner Sales and Alliances, Google Cloud Platform, APAC
- “Azure IoT, Analytics & Power Bl” by Mr Sakhthis Kumar, Microsoft Azure MVP
- “Harnessing AWS for Education” by Mr Sam Harris, Amazon Web Services
EEE lecturers, Dr Tracy Lee and Mr Joe Yang, presented “What is Health 4?” and “Sensor Data Upload, Visualize & Analyse using IoT Cloud-base Services” respectively. Catching the IoT and cloud computing wave, Julian Kang
and his team mates, Pan Ziyue and Sean Tin, all first year EEE students, shared about a prototype they had developed, named SPEEEduino, an IoT-enabled microcontroller which allows devices to be IoT-ready. With SPEEEduino, devices such as lights or
doors can be controlled from your smart device. The chip can also be programmed to record noise, moisture and even temperature levels.
