Course Objective

This course provides participants with essential fundamental knowledge on the theory of Flying, Advanced Aircraft operation principles and techniques abstracted from Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore's (CAAS) Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), Singapore Air Safety Publication's (SASP) syllabus and regulation from International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Competency-Based Training (CBT) Framework. During the course, participants are exposed to authentic Aircraft piloting experience, via a static and full motion flight simulator. The course will equip participants with the required skills and knowledge pursue a career in Commercial Piloting. Participants will also receive professional advice through interactions with instructors having past flying experience or careers in piloting.

Participants will experience Aircraft piloting through a classroom instruction, simulated flying, and experienced reputable airline Pilots' shared experiences. Trainers of the course are current First Officers and Captains, who will also share valuable flying experience with participants. If participants intend to be pilots in future, the trainer will be able to provide valuable information, of how to become a commercial pilot, to them.

Course Outline

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  1. Explain the basic theory of flight, basic aerodynamic of an Aircraft relating to how it can achieve flight, forces acting on the aircraft, basic flight control, etc
  2. Describe operation of the various flight instruments within an Aircraft cockpit and explain how to read them
  3. Explain the function of various avionics systems, within the cockpit and how they work
  4. Introduce different types of Aircrafts like Piston-Powered, Turboprops, and Jets aircrafts
  5. Describe and explain basic manoeuvring of an Aircraft in flight
  6. Explain the Jet Aircraft’s optimum envelope
  7. Plan and create an effective flight plan containing route and information to safely navigate the Aircraft to destination
  8. Explain the communication method between Pilots and Air Traffic Control (ATC) and how they collaborate to achieve safe flight operation
  9. Understand cockpit operation and cockpit layouts in the simulator
  10. Explain and demonstrate, via simulator, the entire process of Aircraft operation starting from ground handling, take-off, basic Aircraft maneuver (climbing, turning, etc.), reading of cockpit flight instrument and landing
  11. Discuss different types of approaches, including Automatic Direction Finder (ADF), Very high Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR), Area Navigation (RNAV), and Instrument Landing System
  12. Explain setup required for an Instrument Landing System (ILS) Approach
  13. Explain conditions that necessitate a go-around during landing and detail procedures for executing a go-around safely, including the missed approach procedure for various types of approaches
