The Part-Time Diploma in Software Engineering is a joint programme, offered by Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic. The objective of this programme is to develop competent and skilled manpower in support of the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) sector's area of Software Engineering.

Course Objective

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply computational thinking and key foundational programming concepts in Program or Software construction
  2. Apply the principles and concepts of Database Management Systems to digitally store structured and unstructured data
  3. Analyse, design, as well as manage Software solutions and projects applying various Software Development methodologies and best practices
  4. Apply user experience and user interface principles to develop multi-platform Software applications, using front-end and back-end frameworks, programming languages, and libraries
  5. Apply secure Software Design principles and techniques, as well as testing to devise robust Software solutions
  6. Apply or infuse emerging ICT technologies in Software solutions, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT)
  7. Apply DevOps practices and tools to increase organisations' ability to deliver fast applications and services
  8. Use cloud-based platforms for Software solutioning and deployment
  9. Work within collaborative teams to integrate acquired knowledge and technical skills to design, develop, and deploy end-to-end Software solutions

Course Outline

This Work-Study Certificate leading to Diploma in Software Engineering will take 12 months to complete. Additional 3 Modular Certificates (MC) to be completed for the award of a Diploma.

Minimum Requirements

Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are:
  • Within three years of graduation from ITE or the Operational Ready Date (ORD) for full-time National Servicemen, or
  • Within five years of graduation from ITE, and if their employer is a participating company
  • Applicants should possess a relevant NITEC (min. GPA: 2.0) or Higher NITEC Certificates
  • Admission will be reviewed and approved by the polytechnic on a case-by-case basis

Certification / Accreditation

MC 1: Modular Certificate in Programming Foundations (Conducted by RP)
MC 2: Modular Certificate in Software Development I (Conducted by SP)

Upon completion of the two modular certificates and fulfilment of skills competency, through on-the-job training within the twelve-month validity period, participants may consider completing MC3, MC4 and MC5 to be awarded the Diploma in Software Engineering. 

Suitable for

Applicants possessing a relevant NITEC (min. GPA: 2.0) or Higher NITEC Certificates, and hired by a participating company
