Course Objective

The SP Media, Arts & Design School is pleased to introduce our new Specialist Diploma in Motion Graphics Design. This course is launched in recognition of the increasing demand for motion graphics in film and video content. A large portion of this course is instructed-led via online platforms.

This specialist diploma is designed to address the demands faced by media industry personnel such as video editors, graphics designers, producers and journalists who face the increasing need to integrate the use of motion graphics for added or parallel job functions and work responsibilities. The modules provide fundamental training in professional industry tools in motion graphics to be practiced in the application modules.

Course Outline

The course consists of 10 modules conducted over two semesters within one academic year. The 7 Software modules are conducted as full day classes on Saturdays. The remaining 3 modules will be conducted on weekday evenings over 15 weeks. 

This course consists of 2 post diploma certificates (PDCs). Each PDC will consist of a few modules and the details are as follows:

PDC 1 Certificate in Software Skills in Motion Graphics Design
Module 1 – Adobe Photoshop Fundamentals*
Module 2 – Adobe Illustrator Fundamentals*
Module 3 – Adobe Premiere Pro Fundamentals*
Module 4 - Adobe After Effects Fundamentals*
Module 5 – Motion Design Fundamentals
Module 6 – Infographics

*Exemptions can be provided based on proof of competency

PDC 2 Certificate in Advanced Motion Design Application
Module 1 – Type Animation in After Effects
Module 2 – Application of Type Animation
Module 3 – Camera and Lighting in After Effects
Module 4 – 3D for Motion Graphics
Module 5 - Multi-Platform Branding

Minimum Requirements

The entry requirement for the Specialist Diploma Motion Graphics Design is a diploma or higher qualification from a local public sector educational institution (PSEI) in the following fields:
  • Design
  • Media
  • Film and Television
  • Journalism
  • Marketing
  • Advertising or Public Relations

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience in the media industry or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Certification / Accreditation

Upon completion of the modules in each semester, the participant will be awarded one Post-Diploma Certificates (PDC) respectively.

Upon successfully acquiring the two PDCs, the participant will be conferred a Specialist Diploma in Motion Graphics Design qualification from Singapore Polytechnic.

Suitable for

This specialist diploma is tailored specifically towards those who are already working in the media industry. We welcome freelancers, full-time and contract staff who want to expand their repertoire of knowledge and skills in motion graphics design to complement their existing expertise. We recognise the busy work schedule of media practitioners, hence a large portion of this course is instructed-led via online platforms to allow participants to remain at home or their offices while attending the lessons.

All applicants are required to own their own computer Notebook. SP will provide the required software for the course.
