Course Objective

Are you planning to venture into the Biomedical and healthcare industry? If you are a mid-career professional in this industry, are you looking into deepening your skills to meet the demands brought about by the digitalization and advancements in technology in the biomedical engineering, medical technology and healthcare sectors?

The School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering offers the Specialist Diploma in Biomedical Engineering as a part-time course. This course is designed for technologists and engineers who like to be trained or re-trained in biomedical engineering. 

This course aims to provide adult learners with practical knowledge and understanding of biomedical engineering as applied to the healthcare industries such as hospitals, companies that manufacture, service and market medical equipment and medical research centres.

With the evolving needs of the Biomedical and healthcare industry, this course has been brought up-to-date with the introduction of new topics that include:

(i) Data analytics in healthcare
(ii) Cybersecurity in healthcare
(iii) Safety & quality assurance
(iv) IoT in healthcare industry
(v) Medical Informatics
(vi)  Emerging trends in medical technology

Participants are required to bring their personal computer notebook during practical sessions to access e-learning materials, write reports, etc.

Course Outline

This course is a one-year part-time evenings-only programme. It consists of 2 Post Diploma Certificates (PDC) of 15 weeks each, conducted over 2 semesters, 1 PDC per semester. Each PDC will consist of two modules and the details are as follows:

PDC 1 Certificate in Fundamentals of Biomedical Engineering
Module 1 – Anatomy and Physiology (AP)
Module 2 – Introduction to Biomedical Engineering (IBE)

PDC 2 Certificate in Biomedical Engineering Applications
Module 3 – Biomedical Instrumentation (BI)
Module 4 – Biomedical Equipment & Engineering Practices (BEEP)

Minimum Requirements

Applicants to the course must have, as a minimum requirement, a diploma or degree in any area of electrical, electronic, telecommunication, communication, instrumentation, control engineering, mechanical, mechatronic or related field.  Applicants with other equivalent qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Certification / Accreditation

Upon completion of two Certificates within a two-year validity period, a participant will be conferred a Specialist Diploma qualification from Singapore Polytechnic.

This course is designed for technologists and engineers who intend to work, or are presently working in the healthcare industry.

Application Procedure

1. For self-sponsored applicant, please click on the “Register” button to apply for the course. You will be directed to STEP portal to manage all your course activities. Please note that you will be prompted to sign in with Singpass/Student ID.
 
2. For company-sponsored applicant, please approach your company's Human Resource (HR) team to put in the application through the company portal using CorpPass.  You may only apply after receiving the registration link from your company's HR.
 
3. Your application does not guarantee acceptance into the course. Your acceptance into the course is dependent on meeting the course requirements and course vacancy.
 
4. Non‐Singaporeans must possess a valid Employment Pass / Work Permit / Dependant Pass throughout the course duration. You would need to bear the full risk of non-completion should your pass expire and subsequently lapse within the duration of the course.
 
5. You will be notified by email on the application outcome 6 weeks after the application’s closing date. 
 
6. PACE Academy course schedules, including course trainer, course fees and course availability are subject to change.

7. PACE Academy reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course at short notice; & at its absolute discretion without assigning any reason for such cancellation/postponements. In the event that the applicant’s chosen course is cancelled prior to its commencement, PACE Academy will make a full refund of course fees already paid by the applicant.
