Why does 5G need cloud? What is the impact of 5G on Cloud Computing?  5G will be the next revolution in cloud computing that will enable mobile devices to easily transfer large volumes of data. The cloud and its various architectures (hybrid, on-premises, and public) will be necessary to manage the increase in storage required for these devices to house the onslaught of data. If you would like to understand how 5G can disrupt the Digital world, this course is perfect for you.

Topics include The Need for Cloud and Virtualisation in 5G; How Cloud Improves the Utilization of Computing Resources; as well as How adopting the Cloud in 5G brings new ways for organizations to reduce costs and extend their services.

In collaboration with 5G industry leader, Ericsson, the course will provide a practical understanding of 5G cloud and virtualisation from a vendor-agnostic perspective. Participants will gain the requisite knowledge on various enabling technologies, such as SDN, virtualisation, and cloud computing. Tapping on Ericsson’s local and worldwide experiences, the course will include up-to-date use case examples and applications of cloud and virtualisation in 5G both locally and overseas. Participants will receive first-hand experience of practical hands-on sessions in on a virtualised environment.

As 5G technology is rapidly being deployed in Singapore and worldwide, it is poised to push the boundaries of the various industries. There will be need for a large pool of the workforce involved in adopting, deploying and developing various applications using 5G technology in the industry; while leveraging on the benefits cloud and virtualisation can bring.

Join this course now to gain an in-depth understanding of the various components of cloud computing, and its benefits, service models, and deployment models under the 5G technology.

Course Objective

This course aims to provide participants with a vendor agnostic understanding of cloud computing and virtualisation. Participants will learn how Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI) is used as a comprehensive solution for building a cloud capable of supporting both Telco and IT workloads. Participants will also gain insights on how Cloud provides an infrastructure to support all workloads, including next generation applications in the mobile networks such as 5G and IoT technologies.

Participants will understand the need for cloud and virtualisation in 5G. Understand how cloud improve utilisation of computing resources. How adopting the Cloud in 5G brings new ways for organizations to reduce costs and extend their services.

By completing the Overview course with 2 other courses (including this) in the 5G Industry course series, participants will be awarded with the SP Ericsson 5G Industry Practitioner Certificate.

Course Outline

The course will be delivered through a combination of lectures, practical demonstration, hands-on simulation and interactive workshop.

By the end of the Course, learners will be able to:

- Describe computer systems used today to support the execution of applications in delivering services to the end users.
- Describe cloud computing.
- Describe 5G requirements.
- List common providers of container technology such as Docker and LXD.
- Identify the ETSI NFV reference architecture.
- Describe the solution for NFV Management and Orchestration.
