5G Core is one of the most important technology drivers for 5G that will enable you to comprehend common use case scenarios such as Connection, Registration, Mobility, and Session management based on the 3GPP Release 15. With the disruption around traditional core network architecture designs by 5G, there is a rising need to understand the detailed specifications that makes up 5G core (5GC).

In collaboration with 5G industry leader Ericsson for this course, participants will gain a vendor-agnostic overview of the 5G Core Architecture and how it is different from previous core network generations. Participants will learn 5G Core key concepts and the context behind why a certain functionality has been included and what is beyond the 5G Core scope. The course will provide practical examples of network deployment options with protocol details and service descriptions. Tapping on Ericsson’s local and worldwide experiences, the course will include up-to-date use case examples and applications of 5G deployments both locally and overseas. Participants will receive first-hand experience on 5G with practical hands-on sessions on a live 5G network.

As 5G technology is rapidly being deployed in Singapore and worldwide, it is poised to push the boundaries of the various industries. There will be need for a large pool of the workforce involved in adopting, deploying and developing various applications using 5G technology in the industry by gaining a clear and practical understanding of the 5G Core Network. If you are looking to extend your 5G knowledge and skills for the rising wave of demand, consider to join this course now.

Course Objective

This course aims to equip participants with a vendor agnostic knowledge on the protocols and the signalling used for the 5G Core (5GC) infrastructure, including the interfaces in 5GC and the interworking with 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and 5G Radio Access Network (RAN). Participants' learning will also be enhanced through the use of various 5GC use case scenarios such as Connection, Registration, Mobility, and Session management based on the 3GPP Release 15.

Participants will understand basic conceptual network architecture and technology for the 5G Core. Understand various interfaces in 5GC and explain the signalling, protocols and service exchange between the network functions. Analyse the basic procedures for 5GC.

By completing the Overview course with 2 other courses (including this) in the 5G Industry course series, participants will be awarded with the SP Ericsson 5G Industry Practitioner Certificate.

Course Outline

The course will be delivered through a combination of lectures, practical demonstration, hands-on simulation and interactive workshop.

By the end of the Course, learners will be able to:
Explain the basic conceptual network architecture and technology for the 5G Core

- Describe and explain the identifiers relevant for the 5GC
- Describe the interfaces and analyse the signalling, protocols and service exchange between the network functions.
