Possible dangers, from accidents involving tankers carrying petroleum, liquid chemicals or liquefied gas cargoes in bulk to human life and the environment, are also introduced. Participants will, overall, be familiar to layout, cargo handling equipment, systems and procedures on board different types of tankers, their characteristics and hazards of their cargoes, basic safety and emergency procedures, as well as pollution prevention.

 

Course Objective

The course is designed to meet the training requirements of Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) paragraph 1.2 of Reg.V/1, applicable to Basic-Level for Second Officers, Third Engineers, and below as well as any person on board oil tankers likely assigned specific duties and responsibilities related to cargo or cargo equipment on board any tanker (but not with immediate responsibility), such as loading, discharging, care in transit, handling of cargo, tank cleaning or other cargo-related tasks on tankers.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) also approves it for meeting all the requirements under Convention Chapter V, Section A-V/1-1 para 1. Furthermore, this certificate is pre-requisite to obtain ‘Dangerous Cargo Endorsement’ (DCE) from MPA. DCE is a mandatory document for Junior shipboard officers and engineers.

Course Outline

By the end of the course, Participants will be able to:
  1. More efficiently handle cargo on tankers, while responsibly doing so
  2. Promptly follow basic safety and emergency procedures, ensuring overall safety

Minimum Requirements

Must be above 16 years of age, have basic working knowledge of English (spoken & written), and merchant ship terminology

Certification / Accreditation

 

• Certificate of Attendance (electronic Certificate will be issued)
A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who meet at least 75% attendance rate

• Certificate of Completion (electronic Certificate will be issued)
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who pass the assessment and meet at least 75% attendance rate
