Course Objective

The proposed course seeks to equip students with the knowledge and skills to carry out their job roles under the private and auxiliary police career track under the security industry in the areas of:

  • border security functions, 
  • information management, 
  • security risk management, 
  • supervisory and business management, and
  • technology trends and communication

Course Outline

The course consists of twenty (20) modules conducted over two and half semesters within two academic year. Classes will be conducted in evenings. 

This course consists of five (5) Modular Certificates (MCs). Each MC will consist of a few modules and the details are as follows:

MC1 Certificate in Border Security Management
Module 1 – Legislations concerning Border Control
Module 2 – Border Security
Module 3 – Security Methods of Border Control
Module 4 – Security Profiling of Travellers

MC 2 Certificate in Information Management
Module 1 – Introduction to Statistics for Data Science
Module 2 – Data Mining Techniques
Module 3 – SF Fundamental of the Personal Data Protection Act
Module 4 – Workplace information Security

MC 3 Certificate in Security Risk Management
Module 1 – Quality Assurance and Audits
Module 2 – Security Risk Analysis
Module 3 – Psychology in Work behaviour and counselling

MC 4 Certificate in Supervisory & Business Management
Module 1 – Innovation Management
Module 2 – Performance Management
Module 3 – Stakeholder Management
Module 4 – Teamwork and Conflict Resolution Management

MC 5 Certificate in Technology Trends & Communication
Module 1 – Interpersonal Skills, Report Writing and Effective Communication
Module 2 – EQ and Empathy
Module 3 – Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Module 4 – Introduction to Blockchain Technology

Minimum Requirements

Applicant need to satisfy at least one of the following minimum entry requirements:

a) The following GCE 'O' Level grades and with at least 1 year of relevant working experience :
  • English Language Grade 1 – 6
  • Mathematics (Elementary or Additional) Grade 1 – 6
  • Any One other subject excluding CCA Grade 1 – 6

OR
b) Nitec with GPA >= 3.5 

OR
c) Nitec with GPA >= 3.0 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
d)  Nitec in Technology/Services with GPA >= 3.5 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
e) Higher Nitec with GPA >=2.0

OR
f) Higher Nitec with GPA >=1.5 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
g) Higher Nitec in Technology/Services with GPA >=2.0 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience.

OR
h) Relevant WSQ Advanced Certificate (or higher) with at at least 1 year of relevant working experience and Level 6 for both WSQ Workplace Literacy SOA & Workplace Numeracy SOA

OR
i) Applicant with none of the qualifications listed above but at least 2 years of relevant working experience.


Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Certification / Accreditation


Upon completion of the modules in each semester, the participant will be awarded one Modular Certificates (MC) respectively.

Upon successfully acquiring the five (5) MCs, the participant will be conferred a Diploma in Border and Security Management qualification from Singapore Polytechnic (SP).

Suitable for

This course is specially designed for students’ currently working security industry. It is also suitable for those who wish to acquire knowledge and skills so as to prepare themselves for a career as a Security Officer, Senior Security Officer, Auxiliary Police Officer, Auxiliary Police Supervisory/ Team Leader, Commanding/ Operations Manager/ Commanding Officer thus enhancing their job mobility and versatility in the workplace.

With the skills and knowledge gained from this course, you will be able to take on new challenges in the security sector.

Application Procedure

1. For self-sponsored applicant, please click on the “Register” button to apply for the course. You will be directed to STEP portal to manage all your course activities. Please note that you will be prompted to sign in with Singpass/Student ID.
 
2. For company-sponsored applicant, please approach your company's Human Resource (HR) team to put in the application through the company portal using CorpPass.  You may only apply after receiving the registration link from your company's HR.
 
3. Your application does not guarantee acceptance into the course. Your acceptance into the course is dependent on meeting the course requirements and course vacancy.
 
4. Non‐Singaporeans must possess a valid Employment Pass / Work Permit / Dependant Pass throughout the course duration. You would need to bear the full risk of non-completion should your pass expire and subsequently lapse within the duration of the course.
 
5. You will be notified by email on the application outcome 6 weeks after the application’s closing date. 
 
6. PACE Academy course schedules, including course trainer, course fees and course availability are subject to change.

7. PACE Academy reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course at short notice; & at its absolute discretion without assigning any reason for such cancellation/postponements. In the event that the applicant’s chosen course is cancelled prior to its commencement, PACE Academy will make a full refund of course fees already paid by the applicant.
