Every Tue and Thurs
6:30pm to 9:30pm (face-to-face class)
9.30pm to 10.30pm (e-learning, students are not required to attend)

Course Objective

This course is designed to equip industry practitioners with applied skills in AI driven visual-textual data analytics by using CV (Computer Vision) and NLP (Natural Language Processing), in order to help them stay relevant in the evolving digital transformation of various industrial sectors.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • understand the concepts of CV, NLP and generative AI through the fusion of CV and NLP,
  • identify the tasks associated with CV and NLP,
  • pre-process visual and textual data,
  • develop machine learning or deep learning models for CV and NLP tasks,
  • evaluate model performance and fine-tune parameters for performance improvement and
  • apply their skills and knowledge in their professional environment.

Semester One
PDC 1 Certificate in Fundamentals of Data Science
Module 1 - Introduction to Statistics for Data Science
Module 2 - Introduction to Programming for Data Science

Semester Two
PDC 2 Certificate in Visual and Textual Data Analytics
Module 3 - Practical Computer Vision
Module 4 - Practical Natural Language Processing

Minimum Requirements

Applicant must satisfy at least one of the following entry requirements:

(i) An engineering diploma from a polytechnic* in Singapore

(ii) Any diploma or degree from a polytechnic* or university** in Singapore AND
  • a C6 or better in Additional Mathematics in the O-level examinations;
  • OR a pass in H2 Mathematics in the A-level examinations;
  • OR a C grade or better in a one-semester mathematics module that substantially covers the Additional Mathematics syllabus;
  • OR relevant work experience (considered on a case-by-case basis).
* NYP, NP, RP, SP, or TP
** NTU, NUS, SIT, SMU, SUSS, or SUTD (candidates with degrees from other universities are considered on a case-by-case basis)

(iii) PDC1 from other tracks of Specialist Diploma in Data Science (candidates can exempt PDC1 modules and directly learn PDC2 modules)

(iv) Completion of related full time modules in statistics or programming (candidates may exempt one or two PDC1 modules, considered on a case-by-case basis)

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may apply for admission to the course by producing evidence of at least 5 years relevant working experience or supporting information to ascertain their competency readiness. Eligible applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test.

The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist eligible applicants and admit applicants who perform well in the interview and/or entrance test.

Certification / Accreditation

Upon completion of two Certificates within a two-year validity period, the participant will be conferred a Specialist Diploma qualification from Singapore Polytechnic.

This course is suitable for working adults who have passion in building knowledge of visual-textual data analytics and learning practical skillsets for a career path including but not limited to the following sought-after job positions:

Artificial Intelligence Applied researcher, Data or Artificial Intelligence Scientist, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning Engineer, Data Analyst, Associate Data Engineer, Senior Data Engineer, Data Architect, Senior Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning Engineer, Head of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Business Intelligence Director or Manager.

Special Requirements

Students in this course are required to bring a notebook computer to class. Necessary software is provided free-of-charge to students for the duration of the course.

Application Procedure

1. For self-sponsored applicant, please click on the “Register” button to apply for the course. You will be directed to STEP portal to manage all your course activities. Please note that you will be prompted to sign in with Singpass/Student ID.
 
2. For company-sponsored applicant, please approach your company's Human Resource (HR) team to put in the application through the company portal using CorpPass.  You may only apply after receiving the registration link from your company's HR.
 
3. Your application does not guarantee acceptance into the course. Your acceptance into the course is dependent on meeting the course requirements and course vacancy.
 
4. Non‐Singaporeans must possess a valid Employment Pass / Work Permit / Dependant Pass throughout the course duration. You would need to bear the full risk of non-completion should your pass expire and subsequently lapse within the duration of the course.
 
5. You will be notified by email on the application outcome 6 weeks after the application’s closing date.
