The Specialist Diploma in Data Science (Data Engineering) (NSDEG) aims to train data engineers with the appropriate skills as to support organisations in creating and sustaining data pipelines to manage the flow of big data. The course starts by laying a foundation in Data Science skills (Statistics and Programming for Data Science) and is then topped off with a specialisation in Data Engineering.

The Work-Study Post-Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Data Science (Data Engineering) programme helps Employers recruit, groom and retain talent as data engineers. It also aims to provide fresh Infocomm Technology (ICT) polytechnic graduates a head-start in their careers when they join as WSP Trainees. WSP Employers can look forward to receiving a grant of up to $15,000 for each fresh ICT polytechnic graduate employee placed in the programme.

Course Objective

The Work-Study Post-Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Data Science (Data Engineering) (WSP-NSDEG) programme helps employers recruit, groom and retain talent as data engineers. It also aims to provide fresh Infocomm Technology (ICT) polytechnic graduates a head-start in their careers when they join as WSP trainees.

Course Objectives:

To allow students to acquire and deepen their skills in data engineering through structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) under the guidance of a company mentor in the WSP company.

To allow students to apply the knowledge and skills that they have learned in the Specialist Diploma (NSDEG) in the workplace.

Course Outline

Semester 1

PDC 1: Certificate in Fundamentals of Data Science

Introduction to Statistics for Data Science
Introduction to Programming for Data Science

Semester 2

PDC 2: Certificate in Data Engineering

Data Management Systems
Big Data Technologies

Minimum Requirements

Applicants for Work-Study Post-Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Data Science (Data Engineering)) must have graduated from a local public sector educational institution (PSEI) and meet the following entry requirements:

The participant shall be Singapore Citizens (“SC”), Singapore Permanent Residents (“PR”) or Long-Term Visit Pass Plus (LTVP+) Holders.
The participant shall be fresh graduates with a full-time Diploma from local Polytechnics.
The participant shall be within 36 months after their graduation from the PSEI (graduation date as stated on the Diploma. For male participants who need to serve National Service, the 36-month period will start from the Operationally Ready Date (“ORD”).
In-employment individuals who have graduated from the PSEI (graduation date as stated on the Diploma) for more than the 36-month period but within 5 years from the date of graduation or ORD, admission into the Programme will be reviewed and approved by SP on a case-by-case basis depending on appeals or requests from participating companies. SP will have to inform SSG on such cases.
Polytechnic graduates from other Diploma courses may also apply and the application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
