Course Objective

The increasing use of intelligence in new commercial and residential buildings has created an increasing demand for technologists capable of utilizing the latest knowledge in building automation and services.
 
This course is designed to provide a path for diploma graduates to update and upgrade themselves in the fields of building automation and building services, and to alleviate the need of the building industry for better-trained technologists to cater for the ever-increasing sophistication in buildings demanded by the market.

Participants are required to bring computer notebook when attending lessons, as you may need it to access the e-learning materials, writing reports, etc.

Graduates will be able to acquire the latest techniques in building automation, as well as update and upgrade themselves with the skills and knowledge in the various building services. This course will prepare them for work in the following industries:

-Building automation
-M&E consultancy firms involved in electrical works
-Sales & servicing of equipment related to building automation
-Operation & maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment in commercial & residential buildings

Course Outline

There are 4 separate modular Post-Diploma Certificates (PDC). Each PDC is designed to be completed in one academic semester and is made up of two 60 hours modules. Upon completion of four PDCs (a total of 480 hours) within a maximum period of 2 years, the participant will be conferred a qualification in the Advanced Diploma in Building Automation & Services.

Participant can decide to complete 1 or 2 PDCs in an academic semester. This is to allow participants the flexibility to complete all the 4 PDCs in a minimum period of 1 year or at the maximum period of 4 years. This course consists of 4 post diploma certificates (PDCs). Each PDC comprises two modules and the details are as follows:

Semester One
PDC 1 Certificate in Power Quality & Control
Module 1 – Power Quality and Energy System
Module 2 – Dynamics and Control

PDC 2 Certificate in Building Electrical Services Design
Module 3 – Electrical Services Design
Module 4 – Power Distribution System in Buildings

 

Semester Two
PDC 3 Certificate in Electric Drives and Programmable Logic Controller
Module 5 – Electric Drives & Control
Module 6 – Programmable Logic Controller for Building Services

PDC 4 Certificate in Building Automation and Management Systems
Module 7 – Air-conditioning Systems Design & Operation
Module 8 – Integrated Building Management System for Energy Efficiency

Minimum Requirements

• Applicants must possess the relevant (Engineering) Polytechnic Diploma from recognised institution in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent qualification. Preference will be given to those with relevant working experience.

• Applicants must ensure that they do not suffer from colour deficiency.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted will have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Certification / Accreditation

Upon completion of four Certificates within a four-year validity period, the participant will be conferred an Advanced Diploma qualification from Singapore Polytechnic.

Suitable for

For practising technologists in manufacturing, sales, servicing, maintenance, and research & development organisations dealing with building automation and services. The personnel include Engineering Assistants, Facility Management Manager, Maintenance Supervisors, System Integrator, Application Engineer, Servicing Engineer, Design Engineer and Sales Engineer etc.
