Emily Thio
DMRO graduate, 2024
"I chose DMRO not only for the robotics but because it offers a blend of both electrical and mechanical engineering. Through modules like PEEE1, PEEE2, and S&C in electrical engineering, as well as Mechanics 1-3 and Thermofluids 1-2 in mechanical engineering, I gained a solid foundation across disciplines. The program also emphasizes coding through robotics projects, providing a well-rounded introduction to key fields. My coursemates and I have each gone on to pursue different areas, from mechanical engineering to computer science, showing how DMRO helped us discover our true interests.
One of the highlights of my time in DMRO was the Design and Fabrication project in Year 2, where we designed, built, and coded our own automated guided vehicle. This experience brought our class closer together, as we learned so much from supporting and collaborating with each other.
For current and prospective students, my advice is to explore, ask questions, help others, and most importantly, enjoy the journey. Take time to discover interests beyond robotics, don’t hesitate to ask for help, and support your peers—teaching others can strengthen your own understanding. Lastly, make the most of your time with your classmates. You’re in this together for three years, so build friendships, create memories, and enjoy every moment!"
