The Work-Study Certificates leading to Diploma in Design (Interior Design) course will leverage upon the existing Part-Time Diploma in Design (Interior Design) offered by School of Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE) that was approved in 2018 of which it has since successfully graduated six cohorts of students. The proposed Work Study Certificate leading to Diploma in Design (Interior Design) will be offered as a one-year Work-Study Certificate program comprising of two Modular Certificate (MC) courses alongside an OJT component (On-the-Job Training), culminating to 360 curriculum hours over two semesters.

The course is targeted at Designer and Lead Designer job roles (based on Skills Framework for Design) in which to impart knowledge in advanced learning areas of Interior Design such as project management, materials & detailing, project costing as well as BIM and portfolio design

Students who wish to obtain a Diploma qualification can do so by further completing the remaining three Module Certificate courses upon completion of the Work Study Certificate.

Course Objective

The course aims to provide students with knowledge in Interior Design, as well as key technical knowledge and skills relevant for the Interior Design Industry. The course is set to provide students with focused skills relevant in the application of work-study setup ranging from Spatial Design, Project Management, Materials, Detailing & Costing as well as BIM for Interior Design.

Minimum Requirements

  • The participant shall be Singapore Citizens (“SC”), Singapore Permanent Residents (“PR”) or Long-Term Visit Pass Plus (LTVP+) Holders

  • The participant shall be fresh graduates with a full-time NITEC/ Higher NITEC from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or local Polytechnics

  • The participant shall be within 36 months after their graduation from the PSEI (graduation date as stated on the Diploma/NITEC/Higher NITEC certificates*). For male participants who need to serve National Service, the 36-month period will start from the Operationally Ready Date (“ORD”)

  • In-employment individuals who have graduated from the PSEI (graduation date as stated on the Diploma/NITEC/Higher NITEC certificates*) for more than the 36-month period but within 5 years from the date of graduation or ORD, admission into the Programme will be reviewed and approved by SP on a case-by-case basis depending on appeals or requests from participating companies

Certification / Accreditation

Upon completion, trainees shall receive a Work-Study Certificate in Diploma in Design (Interior Design) issued by Singapore Polytechnic (SP). Trainees can choose to complete the remaining three (3) MCs offered by the part-time Diploma in Design (Interior Design) to further attain a Diploma certification.

Suitable for

Fresh graduates with a full-time Polytechnic Diploma, from the relevant fields, wishing to deepen their technical skills in the industry via On-the-Job Training (OJT) at participating companies as full time employees, in parallel with classroom learning and facilitation at Singapore Polytechnic
