The course consist of lectures, tutorials, practical sessions as well as industry attachment. During the course of 12 months, participants will take total of 10 modules, which includes knowledge and skills in optics, dispensing and refraction. At the end of the course, participants successfully pass the course and meet at least 75% attendance rate will be Advanced Certificate of Performance in Ophthalmic Dispensing and Refraction (ACOPOD+R) which they may register with Optometrist & Opticians Board (OOB) to practice opticianry.

 

Course Objective

This course aims to train new entry opticians in the technical skills & professional knowledge required in the field of Opticianry, which includes dispensing and refraction.

Course Outline

By the end of the Course, participants will be able to: 

1. Dispense spectacles to the customers with all appropriate measurements and adjustments
2. Perform refraction and provide appropriate refractive correction
3. Relate Optician and Optometrist Board guidelines to the profession

Minimum Requirements

  1. At least 21 years old                                                                            
  2. Possess ES Workplace Literacy (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking) Level 6 or GCE 'O' Level English grade C6 or GCE ‘N’ level passes in English Language grade D5; AND      
  3. Possess ES Workplace Numeracy Level 6 or GCE'O' Level Mathematics grade C6, or GCE ‘N’ level passes in Mathematics grade D5    

Certification / Accreditation

  • Certificate of Performance in Optics
  • Certificate of Performance in Dispensing
  • Certificate of Performance in Refraction

Upon passing the assessment of each certificate, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Upon completion of all the certificates, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion for the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP).
