For Human Resource (HR) professionals, it is essential that they possess sound knowledge of local labour policies and legislation of the territory where they practise. More importantly, the ability to apply this knowledge across the life-cycle of HR functions and situations enables HR professionals to effectively support the businesses and workforce that they serve.

The national HR certification framework identifies Labour Policies and Legislation as one of the Foundational competencies of future-ready HR professionals. This is incorporated as part of the IHRP Certification.

Course Objective

This workshop focuses on enhancing participants' knowledge and application on laws relating to employment in Singapore, and is IHRP accredited, aligning to the Labour Policies and Legislation competency covered in the Certification. Participants will gain a better understanding of these areas, and their practical applications. They will also have increased confidence and effectiveness dealing with employment law related issues/disputes, enhanced abilities complying with various legislations, as well as well-prepared for Paper A's assessment.

Course Outline

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Better understand relevant labour policies, legislations, and their practical applications
  2. Be competent in advising and handling employment-related matters/issues, according to them
  3. Review or develop and implement HR practices, policies, as well as procedures in compliance with the labour legislation and regulations

  • Employment of Foreign Manpower Act
  • Employment of Foreign Manpower (Work Passes) Regulations 2012
  • Central Provident Fund Act
  • Fair Consideration Framework
  • Industrial Relations Act
  • Retirement and Re-Employment Act
  • Work Injury Compensation Act

Minimum Requirements

  • Existing HR professionals with at least Two (2) Years of relevant work experience
  • Attended related courses or qualifications, recognised universities, polytechnics, ITE, or registered private education providers delivered
  • Typically responsible in designing, developing, and implementing policies, as well as programmes delivering services and functions
  • Role of leading a function, and guiding service delivery

Certification / Accreditation


  • Certificate of Attendance (electronic Certificate will be issued)
    A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who meet at least 75% attendance rate
  • Certificate of Completion (electronic Certificate will be issued)
    A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who pass the assessment and meet at least 75% attendance rate

Suitable for

All HR practitioners, keen in improving their knowledge and understanding of local labour law and policies, as well as those preparing for IHRP Certification, are eligible as this course identifies these areas as one of the foundational competencies

Any members of the public including Line Supervisors and Managers, interested in having a basic knowledge of the Singapore employment law and policies to manage HR matters, can also participate.
